Установлено, что наибольшая распространенность кариеса корня зуба была у людей старших возрастных групп и составила в пожилом возрасте 9,88%, в старческом возрасте - 7,40% случаев. У людей молодого, первого и второго зрелого возраста кариес корня диагностировался относительно редко (в 0,26, 1,35 и 5,02% случаев соответственно). Определены предрасполагающие к развитию кариозного процесса морфологические изменения цемента корня зуба. В первом зрелом возрасте кариес корня зуба встречался на фоне рецессии десны при хроническом генерализованном пародонтите, особенно у лиц, страдающих сахарным диабетом. У людей второго зрелого, пожилого и старческого возраста кариес корня зуба протекал на фоне плохой гигиены рта, затрагивал поверхность корней оголенных зубов вследствие заболеваний тканей пародонта, а также зубов, являющихся опорами несъемных зубных протезов или опорой для кламмера съемного зубного протеза.」
